OUR SERVICES
Saint Joseph's Children's Home recognizes the impact that trauma has on many of the children and families that we serve. Identifying and addressing the issues of trauma is a treatment priority. Prior to and upon admission, residents are screened for past and current trauma. Once identified, the trauma and its effects are incorporated into the individual treatment plan. The clinical team utilizes various treatment modalities to effectively treat trauma including, but not limited to: Trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and equine-assisted therapy.
Facility staff receives ongoing training in the effects of trauma and trauma-based approaches as presented by experts such as Dr. Bruce Perry and Dr. Larry Brendtro. Saint Joseph's Children's Home, in its efforts to treat trauma, has established a trauma-informed care committee that meets regularly to explore, discuss and implement effective approaches that benefit staff, residents, and their families.
"We focus on helping children, and we listen to families."
